Referrals

We work with families through a two tier referral process. Families can be referred to us through their child’s school or one of our other partner agencies. A tier one referral is a family who would benefit from attending one course/provision and is keen to do so.

Any family referred as a tier one referral will receive a phone call or 1 home visit from our Family Support Worker to register them onto the course.
A tier two referral is a family who would benefit from multiple NICIP activities or will need encouragement to attend provision.

Working with the family, the Family Support Worker will help to set targets at a home visit first and will then visit the family fortnightly to monitor progress and provide support.

All tier two families will be set targets. In some cases if the Family Support Worker feels it would be beneficial, the child or young person will be paired with a buddy in their school to provide them with support around their targets. The types or targets that could be included are:

  • spending more time together
  • attend parenting courses
  • attend youth provision
  • increase attendance at school by x%
  • reduce numbers of detentions/isolations by x
  • attend after school provision (to make friends or do something active)
  • cook healthy meals at home/eat more healthily
  • attend Cooking with the Kids
  • praise your child on a regular basis/implement techniques from parenting course
  • attend family counselling
  • improve relationships within the family

If a family meets their target then they will be offered a reward which will include the child attending a Boost activity, family activities or youth provision for free.

There are families that we would be unable to support due to the level of need that they require. We hope that this diagram will be able to help if you are thinking of referring to us.
